'Parasite' Sweeps The Oscars

The 92nd Annual Academy Awards took place on February 9th, 2020. Parasite took a clean sweep winning a total of four awards. In total, people of color took home six Academy Awards for the night. Check out all the POC winners below.

Best Picture: Taking home the big award of the night was the film Parasite. With this win, it became the first non-English language film to win in the best picture category.

Best Director: Man of the moment Bong Joon-ho took home the director's awards his film Parasite. Joon-ho masterfully visualized and brought to life a film focused on class conflicts through the lives of the haves and the have-nots.

Best Original Screenplay: To delve into the topical subject of class conflict, you need a script that encapsulates the conflict intricately and entertainingly. With Parasite, Bong Joon-ho and Han Jin-won sealed the deal with this original take on what could be an outdated story idea.

Best Adapted Screenplay: Taika Waititi won for his ability to take the story from the book Caging Skies by Christine Leunens and transform it into the critically acclaimed film that steps on politically correct norms with Jojo Rabbit.

Best International Feature Film: Parasite was the first Korean language film to win in the international category.

Best Animated Short Film: The debut short animated film Hair Love by former Bengals player Matthew Cherry won for its socially relevant story of a young African American girl coming into acceptance of her tightly curled hair with the help of her father.
