Motion Picture: Cincinnati Bengals Cornerback Ceyair Wright To Star In Teyana Taylor’s Dance Drama ‘Get Lite’

Action/Horror/Fantasy/Sci-Fi: Avan Jogia’s (Backrooms) psycho sexual thriller Replace is set to start filming in Montreal on September 16, 2026. Jogia will be directing the Halsey-led project. The synopsis reads, “Stranded in Montreal, Proxy (Halsey), a troubled DJ, meets an alluring artist and his group of friends who run an underground radio station. The station’s broadcast becomes warped by a mysterious signal hidden deep beneath the city’s subway system. Proxy must escape before the sound turns her, and her new friends into something raw, primal, and unrecognizable.”
Black Label Media’s thriller Copperhead adds Jason Momoa, Tenoch Huerta, Adria Arjona, and Kiefer Sutherland to the cast. Character details remain under wraps. In Copperhead, when an undercover drug deal explodes into violence, a veteran detective is forced to team with a young federal agent to unravel the conspiracy within their elite task force. Production is slated for sometime this month. CAA Media Finance and WME Independent are co-repping domestic rights.
Kiki Layne (Vought Rising) joins Luke Hemsworth in Amazon MGM Studios’ new action feature Deadlocked. Character details are being kept under wraps. Layne joins previously announced Jamie Foxx and Sasha Calle. Layne is repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners. The film is being made for streaming and directed by Nikhil Bhat. “Deadlocked follows a grieving former Marine serving jury duty who is forced back into action when the trial of the century turns into a deadly hostage situation as the defendant’s daughter seizes the courthouse to free her father.”
Morgan Freeman is set to star alongside Michael Keaton in the new western thriller Road To Ruin. The two actors will share the screen again after nearly four decades. “Keaton will portray retired U.S. Marshal Henry Tillman, and Freeman is a wanted outlaw named Joseph Mulberry. The marshal searched 40 years for his wife’s killer, and the cold trail finally heats up and leads him to an aging outlaw losing his memory and to a buried truth neither man may survive.” Rode to Ruin will be produced by Lori McCreary, Keaton, Kelly Mendelsohn, and Gary Lucchesi. The film is a production of Revelations Entertainment and George & Leona Productions.
Janicza Bravo to direct PRヨPPY, a true-crime film for STX Entertainment and Aggregate Films. Bravo has cast Kit Connor (Heartstopper) and Diana Silvers (Booksmart) as the two leads in the project. Bravo is fresh off a DGA award for her work on FX’s The Bear; Bravo is repped by WME, Entertainment 360, and Lichter Grossman Nichols. The film explores the summer of 1986, leading to the murder of a recent high school graduate, Jennifer Levin at the hands of Robert Chambers, a former Manhattan private-school student, in New York’s Central Park.
Wes Studi (Dances With Wolves) joins Amazon MGM Studios’ thriller Seasons from writer-director Drew Hancock. The film follows a husband and wife who buy their dream ranch only to discover the land is alive with ancient spirits, and survival means submitting to increasingly disturbing rituals with each turn of the season. Hancock’s script was adapted from a novel by Matt & Harrison Query, which in turn was based on a short story by Matt Query that first appeared on Reddit.
Eugenio Derbez - Maya Dehlin Spach
Drama: Ceyair Wright, NFL cornerback for the Cincinnati Bengals, is set to star in Teyana Taylor's dance film Get Lite. Taylor will direct the feature for Paramount Pictures. Wright will star alongside Storm Reid (Euphoria). The project will begin filming later this month in New York. The project is slated for theatrical release on August 27, 2027. Wright stars as a talented but sheltered dance student who finds inspiration, love, and family in the last place he expected: the subways of New York City. Reid will play the girl who opens his life up to new possibilities. Reid is also producing as is Taylor, who is producing with Courtney “Coco” Gilbert, her partner in their duo’s production banner, The Aunties. This will be Taylor’s directorial debut. Maurice Williams wrote the screenplay based on a spec script by Eric Gross, which appeared on the Black List in 2020.
Eva Longoria and Eugenio Derbez are set to star in Marcelo In The Real World, with Lucia Puenzo directing. The film explores the challenges faced by a young man with autism spectrum disorder as he navigates his place in today’s highly competitive society. Production is underway in Boston and Uruguay. Produced by Zeta Studios and Elefantec Global, the film is an adaptation of Francisco X. Stork’s novel.
Golden Globe nominee Greta Lee and Hagan Oliveras are set to join the cast of Jonah, the feature adaptation of the acclaimed Off-Broadway play by Rachel Bonds. Production is slated for later this month. In Jonah, when a flood of memories forces Ana (Lee) to revisit the defining relationships of her life, she must confront the truth behind the stories she’s long told herself.
Greta Lee - Axelle-Bauer-Griffin
Comedy/Dramedy/Musical: Greta Lee (The Morning Show) is set to join the romance film Honeymoon/Funeral. The project has been filming in London over the past few weeks. MRC is financing the project from director Nahnatchka Khan and screenwriter Julia Bicknell. FilmNation is launching sales ahead of the TIFF market. Lee will join Rebecca Ferguson (Dune: Part Three). The two women play characters who meet on a flight from LA to London. One of them flying to her honeymoon by herself after being left at the altar by her girlfriend, the other headed home for her mother’s funeral. The two end up spending the week together.
Nicole Bruner (High Potential) is set to join the cast of Better Than The Movies, Netflix's adaptation of the NYT bestselling novel by Lynn Painter. The project began shooting in Chicago on September 3, 2026. Bruner will play the character of Jocelyn in the film. The story centers on Liz Buxbaum (Beatrice Kitsos), whose obsession with romantic comedies proves very helpful when she schemes with her annoying but cute next-door neighbor (David Iacono) to get the attention of her untouchable crush.
Christian McCartney to make his screenwriting debut with the sports comedy feature Defensive. Christian McCartney will reunite with Twinbolt Media as the lead of the feature film Defensive, starring opposite Mark Christopher Lawrence (Chuck), Robert Amaya (Courageous), and Camila Camilo (Killing Kin). The feature follows Clarence (McCartney), an overly aggressive basketball fanatic who assembles an unlikely team of amateur detectives to stop a corrupt businessman from destroying their beloved community center.

Industry: AMC is launching an independent distribution company called Leawood Films to distribute independent films in theaters that would have otherwise been overlooked. The company claims to not necessarily be aiming for blockbusters and will instead focus on small and medium-sized films. It will be genre agnostic.
AMC leadership, CEO Adam Aron, claims, “We are aiming particularly to increase the number of small and mid-budget-sized movies that get released theatrically. It is highly unlikely that Leawood Films will include blockbuster tentpole type releases. So, our Leawood Films effort is intended to complement, not compete with, the crucial work of our longstanding existing partnerships with major studios and key distribution partners.” Aron continued: “Ultimately, moviegoers consistently demonstrate their appetite for a wide variety of theatrical content, and we believe there are more outstanding films that deserve the opportunity to find audiences on the big screen.”
AMC reports that they will respect a window of at least 45-days before a Leawood title arrives on PVOD and 90 days or more for SVOD. The majority of revenue for these titles after they leave theaters will remain with the filmmakers. The company has assembled a team of veteran executives to advise the venture. The team is composed of former Warner Bros. film boss Toby Emmerich, former Walt Disney Studios marketing chief Ricky Strauss and Bleaker Street distribution boss Kyle Davies.
Filmmaker Alexander Henderson signs with Artists First for management. Henderson is a self-taught writer, director, and producer who has built a significant following through his YouTube channel, AlexanderTheTitan. He found breakout success with his horror short Mama Agnes, which has amassed more than 10 million views. He has made two independent features without outside financing, VCR Willie: Tape 1 and The Red Nightmare. Henderson is interested in juxtaposing grounded characters and everyday settings with suspense, horror, and the supernatural. A former collegiate athlete, he briefly pursued a career in professional football before making the decision to dedicate himself fully to filmmaking.
Carla Jeffery has passed away. The Disney’s Zombies and Curb Your Enthusiasm actress was 33. Her longtime reps at Alexanders Talent Management announced the news on social media but did not provide a cause or place of death. She died on September 1, 2026. Born on July 10, 1993, in Houston, Jeffery made her screen debut in the 2006 rom-com feature Phat Girlz, playing the 10-year-old version of Jazmin (Mo’Nique). Before Jeffery landed her signature role in the Zombies franchise, the 2010s saw her continue to guest star on such series as Men of a Certain Age, Good Luck Charlie, Torchwood, Shake It Up, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Uncle Buck, Screen Queens, and Suburgatory.
