Motion Picture: Marvin Jones Carves Out Role In New ‘Spider-Man’, Morgan Freeman to Executively Produce ‘Break Out’

Action/Horror/Fantasy/Sci-Fi: A new development for Spider-Man: A Brand New Day, as Marvin Jones III is cast as the crime boss Tombstone. This isn’t the first time Jones has played Tombstone, as he’s played the iconic villain in Sony’s Spider-Verse films and will also be reprising his role in its long awaited sequel. The film went back into production earlier this week following Tom Holland's on-set concussion.
There’s some new buzz around The Beekeeper’s upcoming sequel. Emmy and Golden Globe winner Yara Shahidi, who is most known for her work on Black-ish and Grown-ish,is cast to be Jason Statham's co-star in the follow-up to Miramax’s hit action film. What her role will be in the film has yet to be stated. Additionally, Amazon and MGM Studios will handle worldwide distribution, while Miramax handles financing and production of the film. The film is expected to start production this fall.
Comedy/Dramedy/Musical: The final trailer for Wicked: For Good has been released and shows Cynthia Erivo reprising her role as Elphaba alongside Ariana Grande as Glinda, with the two on opposing sides in a fight for Oz. The trailer also features much of the cast from the last movie reprising their roles as well. Wicked’s theatrical run has done extremely well and the film has taken home Oscars for best production design and best costumes. The film is set to hit theaters Friday, November 21, 2025.

Documentary: Morgan Freeman and his production company, Revelations Entertainment, has joined Tom Donahue’s animated documentary Break Out as an executive producer. The documentary follows Alexei and Dimitri as their love story unravels amidst Russia enacting anti-LGBTQ laws and the invasion of Ukraine. The film will use first-person accounts, dramatic reenactments, and animation to tell their story. In an interview, Freeman said, “Stories like Break Out remind us why cinema matters. This is not only about survival; it’s about love, courage, and living freely.” The documentary is slated for festival premiere next year.
Keeping with international stories, Australia has picked Gabrielle Brady’s Mongolian-langauge documentary The Wolves Always Come At Night for best international feature at the 2026 Academy Awards, where it will also be running for best documentary feature. The documentary follows two herders as they leave their homelands due to an exceptionally powerful sandstorm made worse by the climate crisis. The film is a collaboration between three nations, that being Germany, Mongolia, and Australia. The film premiered at festivals in Toronto, Zurich, San Francisco, Sydney and London in 2024.
