Action/Sci-Fi/Horror: Two-time Emmy nominee Diego Luna (Andor) expands his relationship with Disney+ by joining the live-action cast of Tangled. Luna will join the previously announced cast, which includes Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim, who lead the ensemble as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. Remaining character and plot details are extremely under wraps. Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) is attached to direct from a script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Michael Montemayor. Kristen Burr from Burr! Production is producing the feature alongside Lucy Kitada. Luna can also be seen starring alongside Jennifer Lopez in Kiss of the Spiderwoman.
Michael B. Jordan (Sinners) has officially secured the lead in Joseph Kosinski’s Miami Vice ‘85 film. The film is set to start production this year as Kosinski comes off the summer blockbuster F1: The Movie. Jordan is slated to play Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs and will star alongside Austin Butler (Elvis). The feature is based on the pilot and first season of the Universal TV show Miami Vice. Unlike the 2006 Miami Vice movie adaptation starring Jamie Fox, this will be a period piece set in the 80s and shot on IMAX. The film is set to be released by Universal Pictures on August 6, 2027.
Additionally, Michael B. Jordan will also tackle a Battlefield movie adaptation based on the war video game of the same name. Jordan is in talks to produce and possibly star in the feature. Sources from The Hollywood Reporter have informed that several studios are bidding for the film. However, those involved in the production are prioritizing a theatrical release, so it is unclear if streamers such as Netflix are under serious consideration.
Rukiya Bernard (YellowJackets) has signed up to star in the horror-thriller Sundowning from Spooky Pictures and Imagine Nation. Production is already underway in Vancouver. Rami Yasin (Hokum) and Roy Lee (Weapons) will be producing for Spooky Pictures. Bernard is best known for her work on the Showtime hit YellowJackets and Fox’s Chicken Sisters. Her latest role is in the AMC hit series Audacity. Bernard is represented by D2Management and RED Management.
Tessa Thompson joins psychological thriller Foxfinder from Aoife McArdle. Thompson will be starring alongside Bear star Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Owen Cooper (Adolescence). Foxfinder is based on the award-winning play by Dawn King and co-written by director McArdle and the playwright. Cornerstone and Logical Pictures Group will launch sales for Aoife McArdle's movie in Cannes.
Netflix releases a first look at Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent) and Greta Lee’s sci-fi thriller The Last House, formerly titled 11817. The film follows a family of four who get trapped inside their house and must face a looming presence that won’t let them escape. Lee will star alongside Riley Chung (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), Emma Ho (The Baker), Noah Alexander Sosnowski (Section 8), and Gabriel Barbosa (May December). The film will stream exclusively on Netflix starting August 7, 2026.

Drama: Keke Palmer set to executive produce and star in Lottery for Searchlight Pictures. Palmer will be starring alongside Zack Gottsagen of The Peanut Butter Falcon. The project is currently under development, and no shooting dates have been confirmed. Keke Palmer is a two-time Emmy winner for her work on Turnt Up with the Taylors and Password. She is also a New York Times bestselling author and podcast host of Baby, This is Keke Palmer. She is repped by 3 Arts Entertainment and Hertz Lichtenstein Young & Polk.
Netflix has begun production on The Generals, a Korean political thriller from respected director Yoon Jong-bin. Thus, marking Yoon’s first feature in eight years. The Generals is Yoon’s second project with Netflix after the smash success of his limited series Narco: Saints in 2022. Yoon is known for dissecting fascism, authoritarianism, and how people survive under rigid hierarchies. The film’s two leading men are Son Suk-ku (D.P.) and Ha Jung-woo (Nameless). The supporting ensemble includes: “Ji Chang-wook (Revolver) playing Heo Hak-seong, a junior officer who becomes a thorn in Roh’s side; Hyun Bong-sik (A Killer Paradox) as Jung Ho-joong, a classmate and friend to both Roh and Chun; and Seo Hyun-woo (My Name Is Loh Kiwan) playing Park Cheol-woong, a prosecutor and Roh’s trusted chief of staff. The film will stream exclusively on Netflix and is being produced by Moonlight Pictures and Sanai Pictures.
Herman Yau’s Social Drama We’re Nothing at All officially has a UK release date. The film will open in British and Irish Cinemas on May 29, 2026, following a deal between Trinity CineAsia and Golden Scene for U.K. and Ireland rights. Yau financed this film himself without any outside help. This is the first film from Yau’s The Plan Company and garnered major buzz after its debut in Hong Kong on April 3, 2026, where it won the Audience Choice Award at the Hong Kong International Film Festival. Yau is one of Hong Kong’s most prolific directors with 80 credits under his belt, including Shockwave and The Untold Story.

Animation: Bong Joon Ho is reuniting with NEON for the animated family film Ally. The film has been in development since 2019 and is expected to be released in theaters in 2027. Bong describes this feature as a “family adventure blending humor and emotion.” This marks his sixth collaboration with NEON after Parasite became the first foreign film to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards. “CJ ENM, Penture Invest, and Pathé are handling the financing and distribution, with Barunson C&C overseeing production. Seo Woo-sik serves as producer on the film, marking his third collaboration with Bong following Mother and Okja.”
Sofia Rose and Marsai Martin to Star in Animated Feature The Neverending Pillow Fort. Newcomer Sofia Rosa will lead the animated feature alongside Elizabeth Cullen (Elvis), “based on a children's novel by Will Taylor, for which Sola Media is launching international sales at Cannes.” Others in the cast include David Tennant (Doctor Who), Guy Pearce (The Brutalist), Teresa Palmer (A Discovery of Witches), and Marsai Martin (Black-ish). The film is currently in production in Australia, under the direction of BAFTA nominee Allison Brownmoore (The Amazing Adventures of Awesome). The Neverending Pillow Fort follows best friends Maggie (Cullen) and Abby (Rose), who build on imaginative pillow fort adventures. Their bond is tested when Abby returns from camp eager to embrace the real world and new friendships. Crayola Studios, Alceon Entertainment Partners, Eclectik Vision, MIMO Studios, and Like A Photon Creative are producing the film.
Comedy: Awkwafina and Ken Jeong reunite as father and daughter in dark comedy Kaet Might Die. Anthony Ramos (In the Heights) will also star. The production has wrapped, and Capture Entertainment is ready to launch international sales at Cannes. The film is based on Kaet McAnneny’s cancer memoir Boobs Gone Rogue. Mercedes Bryce Morgan (Bone Lake) is directing from a script adapted by Angela Gulner and Yuri Baranovsky. Morgan spoke to Deadline about the project, claiming: “This amazing script is based on a real story, but expressed through a darkly funny lens, heightened, and wildly surreal. ”The film tells the “true story of a woman (Awkwafina) who has it all: then a cancer diagnosis upends her perfectly ordered life, forcing her to rely on humor and imagination to survive a crumbling marriage and overbearing family.” Awkwafina will be executive producing alongside her career-defining performance. Anthony Ramos (In the Heights) will also star.
Netflix releases the official trailer for Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein’s romantic comedy Office Romance. Other key cast members include Betty Gilpin, Amy Sedaris, Tony Hale, Bradley Whitford, and Edward James Olmos. The film is described as a “secret office romance and the trouble two workaholics get in when they start thinking with their hearts,” by Variety. Office Romance will debut on the streamer on June 5, 2026. This film marks a return to Netflix and genre for Jennifer Lopez, who is widely known as the romantic comedy queen. She has starred in Shotgun Wedding, The Wedding Planner, Maid in Manhattan, Monster-in-Law, Marry Me, and The Back-Up Plan, just to name a few. Her last project with Netflix was the 2024 Sci-fi thriller Atlas, which performed poorly among audiences. Office Romance has been in production since 2024, with Lopez starring and producing from a script written by Goldstein and Joe Kelly.
