Motion Picture: Rizwan Manji Signs With Stewart Talent, Mason Gooding Set To Star In ‘Last Resort’

David Castañeda - Savion Washington/Stringer

Horror/Action/Fantasy/Sci-Fi: Umbrella Academy actor David Castañeda is set to star in an untitled horror film from Lionsgate and Talking Pictures. Castañeda will be starring opposite Aimee Carrero (Code 3), where he will play Ben, a doctor and Carrero’s husband in the film. The plot follows Lorena Figueroa (Carrero), who is worried about her 12-year-old son’s safety after an accident. Lorena depends on her security system to keep her son safe while she’s away, but things take a turn when home invaders stalk her and her son throughout the house. Production has wrapped up in Los Angeles with no release date on the horizon.

Mason Gooding (Heart Eyes) is set to star in an upcoming action film titled Last Resort. The film’s story is set in a resort full of college kids during spring break. A cartel takes over the resort, and to save his friends, a 25-year-old former Marine (Gooding) must overcome his PTSD. The film will be directed by Luis Prieto from a script written by Eric Champnella and Grant Thompson. Shooting has started in Spain, and no release date has been revealed.

Ryan Coogler (Sinners) has announced that the next film he’s working on is another entry into the MCU’s Black Panther films. This tease came about during a panel about Sinners at Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles. Denzel Washington had slipped up last year during an interview, saying that Coogler was writing a part for him, which Coogler confirmed was true. The Black Panther films kicked off in 2018 with the late Chadwick Boseman playing King T’Challa. After the tragic loss of Boseman to colon cancer in 2020, Letitia Wright’s character, Shuri, picked up the mantle in place of T’Challa in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Michael B. Jordan - Joe Scarnici/Stringer

Drama/Musical/Comedy: Michael B. Jordan (Sinners) joins the voice cast of a new animated film alongside Juno Temple (Roofman) for Netflix and Skydance Animation. Jordan will voice a small woodland creature in the upcoming buddy comedy directed by Nathan Greno (Tangled), titled Swapped. The film is set in “The Valley” and will feature the aforementioned woodland creature swapping bodies with his natural enemy, a majestic bird voiced by Temple. They must team up to survive and see life from brand new perspectives. John Whittington, Robert Snow, and Christian Magalhaes wrote the screenplay, with no set release date.

A live-action version of Disney’s 2016 animated hit, Moana, is in the works, with Catherine Laga’aia (The Lost Flowers Of Alice Hart) playing the titular character. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (The Smashing Machine) will be reprising his role as Maui. The film is to be directed by Tony winner Thomas Kail and will have Kail executively producing alongside Scott Sheldon, Charles Newirth, and Auli’i Cravalho, who voiced Moana in the original animated version. The film is set to hit theaters on Friday, July 10, 2026.

Shohei Ohtani - Gina Ferazzi

Documentary: Banijay Americas’ production label BD4 is teaming up with MLB Studios to produce a documentary titled Homecoming: The Tokyo Series. The documentary will be directed by Emmy winner Jason Sterman and will focus on the games that the LA Dodgers and Chicago Cubs played during the start of the 2025 World Series. The film will also follow Dodgers’ players Shohei Ohtani, Roki Sasaki, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, as well as Cubs’ players Seiya Suzuki and Shota Imanaga, who are all returning to Japan. The documentary aims to highlight the similarities between baseball and Japanese values of craft, discipline, and devotion.
