Curtain Call: Pentatonix’s Kirstin Maldonado Returns To Broadway, ‘Something Rotten!’ To Hit The U.K. Theater

Broadway: Pentatonix singer Kirstin Maldonado is set to return to Broadway, joining the cast of the musical SIX. Maldonado’s role will be as Anne Boleyn starting Monday, June 1, 2026, following the final performance of Dylan Mulvaney the day prior. Additional cast include Adrianna Hicks, Jasmine Forsberg, Olivia Donalson, and Anna Uzele. This will be Maldonado’s second Broadway role, after her previous debut in Kinky Boots in 2018.
Casting has been announced for the Broadway production of Maybe Happy Ending, including Zachary Noah Piser and Hannah Kevitt. Piser has previously been in other Broadway productions, such as Wicked and Dear Evan Hansen. Like Piser, Kevitt is also no stranger to the theater world, previously in Back to the Future and Maybe Happy Ending as an understudy. Both Piser and Kevitt will step into the roles of Oliver and Claire, respectively, following the last performances of Darren Criss and Claire Kwon on Sunday, May 17, 2026. The North American tour of the musical will include Claire Kwon and Steven Huynh, kicking off at the Hippodrome Theatre at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center in Baltimore from Sunday, September 13, 2026, through Friday, September 19, 2026.

Off-Broadway: Dance Moms’ star Nia Sioux will return to off-Broadway in the Cost n’ Mayor dance show 11 to Midnight, opening on Friday, May 15, 2026, through Sunday, May 31, 2026. Sioux is brought into the immersive production choreographed by Austin and Marideth Telenko, which centers around a group of friends celebrating the incoming new year in New York City. Working alongside Melissa Becraft, Brendon Chan, and Tyson Hill, among others, Sioux will be performing for three weeks at the Orpheum Theatre. Sioux’s performance in 11 to Midnight marked her second appearance, following her off-Broadway debut of the 2016 production Trip of Love.
The A.R.T./New York Theatres will be showcasing the premiere of Go Down, Moses, opening on Saturday, May 17, 2026, following development spanning over eight years by Dana Leslie Goldstein. Directed by Brandon M. Weber, the play will retell the true story of an ethics professor and a dean, whose friendship is put in turmoil following the invitation of a controversial guest speaker. The cast is set to include Terence Archie and Philip Hoffman.

Regional: Law and Order: SVU star BD Wong is set to star in a reimagined performance of The Glass Menagerie, from Friday, April 9, 2027, through Sunday, May 2, 2027, adapted by Wong and Taibi Magar. Wong’s role will take a unique spin, as he will act as every member of the Wingfield family. The month-long performance will take place at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre, presented by the Philadelphia Theatre Company (PTC). The premiere is one of many of the 2026-2027 season brought on by PTC.
Casting has been finalized for the Paper Mill Playhouse production of West Side Story, spanning from Thursday, May 28, 2026, through Sunday, June 28, 2026. Its first official opening will take place on Sunday, May 31, 2026, with Noah Henry starring as Tony and Sarah-Anne Martinez as Maria. Other cast includes Mikaela Secada, Atony Sanchez, and Hugo Pizano Orozco, among others. Dreamgirls director Mark S. Hoebee is set to direct this production, closing out the Paper Mill Playhouse’s 2025-2026 season.
The Wire star Wendell Pierce and The Pitt’s Lucas Iverson are to star alongside each other in the Shakespeare Theatre Company's upcoming production of Othello, directed by Simon Godwin. Production will start Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Harman Hall and will conclude on Sunday, June 28, 2026. Othello is one of William Shakespeare’s most performed and famous works, and it centers around the protector Othello, played by Pierce, and his rival Iago, played by Ben Turner. Iverson’s role in the production will be as Cassio, Pierce’s right-hand man.
On Saturday, April 18, 2026, the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra delivered a production of West Side Story, featuring Cecilia Violetta López and Andrew Bidlack, at the Miller Auditorium. López assumed the role of Maria, with Bidlack as Tony. The 31-person cast was directed by Chía Patiño, with music director Julian Kuerti and choreography by Erin Moore of West

International: Oklahoma! actress Marisha Wallace is to star in the anticipated U.K. premiere of the hit musical Something Rotten! The hit Broadway musical comedy will make its way to the Manchester Opera House stage from Tuesday, June 16, 2026, to Sunday, July 19, 2026, with a moving date to London's West End unannounced. Wallace’s role consists of the leading lady, Bea, the independent wife of Nick Bottom, played by Sweeney Todd’s Jason Manford. Sharing her excitement in joining the production, Wallace states, “It was pure joy to be a part of this hilarious musical on Broadway a decade ago-so now, to be joining this incredible company for the first time that U.K. audiences will get to see it, it is a full-circle moment in the best way.”
Gypsy star Joy Woods is set to make her West End debut upon entering the role as Sally Bowles in Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club in London on Monday, May 25, 2026, directed by Rebecca Frecknall. Prior to her new role, Woods is known for her roles in the productions of The Notebook, SIX, and Little Shop of Horrors. Woods’ Cabaret appearance will conclude on Saturday, September 5, 2026, right before her role in the new musical Galileo will begin on Tuesday, November 10, 2026.
The 72nd Puccini Festival at Torre del Lago, Italy, will feature Jackie Chan’s first opera, Turandot, this upcoming summer. Chan’s production will consist of a variety of international singers, such as Roberto Alagna, as well as incorporating his knowledge of martial arts and tai chi. Turandot will be performed on the following date: Friday, July 17, 2026; Friday, July 24, 2026; Saturday, August 1, 2026; and Sunday, August 9, 2026, with its production tour first starting in China.

Industry: The 2026-2027 cohort for the Transatlantic Commissions Program has been announced, which includes Tishé Fatunbi, Dafe Orugbo, Esosa Ighodaro, and Séan Gallen. The program initially was created to support Black Irish writers and artists of color, while also addressing past lack of representation in theater. In collaboration with Fishamble: The New Play Company and Irish Repertory Theatre, the Apollo Theatre is now joining in. Each of the cohorts will be under the mentorship of various theater professionals, such as Kelley Girod, Gavin Kostick, and Nicola Murphy Dubey. The program began in April 2026 and will be concluding with readings of the cohort’s plays in Dublin and New York next year.
Titilola Dawudu, CEO of HighTide, has unveiled her inaugural season, including a variety of productions starting with Vicki Stone’s Caroline: A New Musical on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, running through Saturday, May 2, 2026. The production will tour in collaboration with the East Anglian Touring Consortium. Future productions include The Disappearing Man by Kenny Emson, set to open in October 2026 as part of the company’s continued focus on developing new writing.
Ed Yim has joined TOC Arts Partners as a senior consultant, the firm announced. In this role, he will advise arts and cultural organizations, focusing on classical music and opera. Yim previously served as president and CEO of the American Composers Orchestra, also holding senior roles at WQXR. TOC Arts Partners provides leadership search and strategic advising services to arts organizations across the U.S. and internationally. Yim’s appointment is expected to strengthen its work with orchestras and other classical music groups.
The 15th annual 48Hours in…Harlem festival will continue this summer, brought on by Harlem9, a collective of Black theater professionals who aim to produce and celebrate Black stories in Harlem. Taking inspiration from the culture and history of the neighborhood, a team of over 24 creatives, including directors, playwrights, and actors, will assemble six 10-minute plays. In addition to the short productions, a tribute will be made for Woodie King, Jr., founder of New York City’s New Federal Theatre, who passed away earlier this year. Co-founder of Harlem9 Eric Lockley discussed King’s legacy, stating, “Woodie King Jr. will always be a giant in our community-not just for what he built, but for how he made you feel while he was building it. His sheer joy in championing the ambition of Black artists is what made him singular.” The festival will take place on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the Jacques d’Amboise Center for Learning & the Arts.
