Motion Picture: Riele Downs Shoots For The Moon In New Coming Of Age Film, Camila Perez Gets Signed

Comedy/Musical/Drama: Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Camila Cabello (Rob Peace) and actor-writer Langston Kerman (Abbott Elementary) have been cast in Jonah Hill and Ezra Woods’s latest comedy film. The film, titled Cut Off, centers around a pair of rich siblings who are cut off from their parents. Cabello has starred in other works, such as Trolls Band Together and Kay Cannon's Cinderella. Kerman has also recently released a Netflix stand-up special and has appeared in other shows, like The Boys. The film has entered production with no release date announced.
The sequel to The Social Network, titled The Social Reckoning, has four more actors set to join the cast. Among them is Gbenga Akinnagbe (A House Of Dynamite). Character details are being kept under wraps. Aaron Sorkin is directing this time around with his own script, and this film is meant to be a companion piece to the original. No release date has been announced.
Riele Downs (Henry Danger) is playing the lead in a new coming-of-age film. Titled Dreams Of The Moon, the film is set in the 1970s during the Watergate scandal, the women's liberation movement, and what remains of the Space Race. Production has wrapped up in Ontario, Canada, and will continue in Cape Town, South Africa. The film follows Lucy (Downs), a fearless, young Black girl who aspires to be an astronaut and finds herself coming face to face with NASA astronauts who come to her small Canadian mining town. The film uses historical fiction to tell a story of hope and dreaming big, and currently has no set release date.
Prentice Penny - Arnold Turner
Documentary: Prentice Penny is set to direct an upcoming three-part documentary about the life and legacy of civil rights activist Jesse Jackson. The documentary will follow the story through the eyes of Ashley Laverne Jackson, Jesse Jackson’s daughter. The film promises never-before-heard stories and never-before-seen footage. In an interview, Ashley Laverne Jackson said, “With so many of my peers unfamiliar with his story, his impact on popular culture, or his influence on global democracy, I realized it was my charge to serve as a bridge for younger generations searching for hope.” Prentice Penny’s production company, A Penny For Your Thoughts Entertainment, will also be involved in the project. No release date has been announced.

Industry Update: Star of Apple TV+’s Acapulco, Camila Perez has signed with Gersh for representation in all forms. Born in Medellín, Colombia, Perez moved to the U.S. when she was young and was raised in New York. She has recently won an Imagen Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series and is also receiving a Critics' Choice Award for Best Breakthrough Actress on Friday, October 24, 2025. Gersh is a large talent agency founded in 1949 and based in Beverly Hills.
Spike Lee and Ryan Coogler, among other Black figures in Hollywood, have been announced as honorees for the 8th Critics' Choice celebration of Black Cinema and Television. Taking place on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, in Los Angeles, the event is meant to honor the work of Black people in entertainment, both on and off screen. Jay Pharoah, best known for Saturday Night Live, will be hosting the event. In total, 16 people have been chosen as honorees.
Academy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson (Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist) has just signed a two-film acting deal with Netflix. In addition to acting in these films, Henson will be a producer in both of them with her production company, TPH Entertainment. In an interview, Henson said, “I’ve always believed that storytelling has the ability to inspire, heal, and celebrate our shared humanity. With a partner like Netflix, I have the opportunity to do that on a global stage. I’m grateful for their trust in me as we start this new journey together.”
