Ratings Report: ‘All American’ Is Closing On A High Note, ‘The Vampire Lestat’ Continues Its Positive Reception, ‘Little House on the Prairie’ Gets Mixed Reviews
Broadcast: All American is releasing its eighth and final season, which has released three of its episodes. The eighth season has amassed 1.04 million total viewers, averaging 346,667 viewers per episode, and a 0.06 average rating. This is an increase from the previous season’s first three episodes: 929,000 total viewers, 308,667 average viewers and 0.04 average rating. So far, the lowest-rated episode of season eight (episode three) has 310,000 viewers and a 0.05 rating versus the season seven lowest (episode one) of 277,000 viewers and a 0.03 rating. The highest performing of season eight was episode one with 410,000 viewers and a 0.07 rating; the highest of season seven was episode seven with 386,000 viewers and a 0.06 rating. These indicate that audiences are responding slightly more positively to its closing season than its previous one.
All American follows a high school American football player who gets recruited to play for a school on the other side of Los Angeles, from Crenshaw to Beverly Hills. The series has an ensemble main cast that includes Bre-Z (Empire, If I Go WIll They Miss Me), Greta Onieogou (Fever Pitch, Miss Sloane), Michael Evans Behling (The Queen’s Jewels, Vipers), Osy Ikhile (Black Mirror, Heavyweight), Alexis Chikaeze (Miss Juneteenth, Rap Sh!t), Nathaniel Logan McIntyre (Michael, The Equalizer) and Antonio J. Cable: The Vampire Lestat (previously titled Interview with the Vampire) recently released its third season. This season earned a 98% critics rating across 81 reviews and 85% audience rating across 500+ reviews. This is a marginal change from season two’s 100% critics rating across 80 reviews and 84% audience rating across 1,000+ reviews. Critics repeatedly praise the writing, performances and ability to continue the story of the Interview with the Vampire with complexity and weight. Similarly, audiences praised the writing and performances. The criticism seems to primarily come from some fans of the original source material, though other fans notably liked the series’ direction. Both groups liked the focus on queer and racial themes throughout the series.
The Vampire Lestat is a recounting of the relationship between Louis de Pointe du Lac, played by Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones, Overlord), and Lestat de Lioncourt, played by Sam Reid (Belle, ‘71). Anderson and Reid are joined by Eric Bogosian (Talk Radio, Wonderland), Delainey Hayles (Too Close, Holby City), Assad Zaman (Hotel Portofino, Apple Tree Yard), Joseph Potter (My Policeman, Outrageous) and Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty, A Quiet Passion). The series is based on the novel series by Anne Rice (The Feast of All Saints, Cry to Heaven). The first two seasons of the series are based on the first novel and the third season on the second novel. The series has been renewed for season four under a new title, Queen of the Damned, based on the third novel. The Vampire Lestat can be watched in full on AMC+ and Sling TV.
Streaming: Little House on the Prairie released its first season to a debut of its first two weeks in the Netflix Top Ten. The series has garnered 107.7 million hours watched across 16.2 million views. The series has a 80% critics rating across 64 reviews and 68% audience rating across 250+ reviews. Critics generally enjoyed the take on the adaptation, liking the performances and the series leaning into its family entertainment audience. The contested elements were related to its adaptation and some characterizations. Audiences liked the writing and performances overall, but it faced challenges in historical accuracy and being compared to both the original novel series and the 1970’s adaptation.
Little House on the Prairie follows the Ingalls family as they move to Independence, Kansas and navigate a new life there. The series is based on the original novel series by Laura Ingalls Wilder (On the Way Home, The First Four Years), with this title and story primarily being drawn from the third book in the series with the same name.
