Viewing Figures: ‘Our Golden Days’ Remains #1 K-Drama; ‘The Bold And The Beautiful’ Ties With ‘The Young And The Restless’ As Top-Rated Daytime Drama
South Korea: The ongoing KBS television series Our Golden Days was once again the highest rated drama series, averaging 13.86 percent of viewers in South Korea, beating the competition by a landslide. These figures are slightly down from Our Golden Days’ September viewing figures of 14.72 percent. By comparison, the TV Chosun series Confidence Queen was the lowest rated on-going drama in South Korea, with just 1.25 percent of viewers.
K-Drama Broadcast Ratings
On the streaming side, crime thriller series The Asset was the lowest rated non-English language program. Debuting on Oct. 27, The Asset averaged 11.3 million views during its first week, beating its competition despite only releasing at the end of the month. Meanwhile, Ranma1/2 and The Ba***ds of Bollywood were the least watched non-English language series on Netflix, with just 1.4 million views each.
United States: As usual, CBS’ The Young and the Restless remains the top-rated Soap Opera in the United States, averaging 2.88 million viewers in October. However, the daytime drama nearly tied with The Bold and the Beautiful, which scored 2.87 million viewers over the course of the month. Respectively, both soaps have been the number one and number two rated soaps in the United States, and The Bold and The Beautiful has occasionally beat The Young and the Restless in the ratings. Meanwhile, freshman soap Beyond the Gates averaged 1.57 million viewers in October, in line with its average since the series premiered in Feb. Despite having two strong lead-ins, Beyond the Gates remains the lowest rated Soap Opera on air in the United States.
ABC’s General Hospital, the longest running American Soap Opera in production, averaged 1.88 million viewers in October, similar to its usual monthly figures. While the soap’s ratings have remained steady over the years, these figures are a far from its glory days in the 1980’s, when it held the number one spot for nearly a decade, before being dethroned by The Young and the Restless. The 1980-81 season was General Hospital’s most successful to date, scoring an 11.4 rating.
