Screen Share Report: Timon Kyle Durrett and Colby Nixon Top episode counts; ‘The Bold and the Beautiful makes strides towards representation
Cloby Nixon and Timon Kyle Durrett - cbs
Since February 2025, the CBS soap opera Beyond the Gates has led the game in representation for people of color on daytime television dramas. America’s youngest soap, coming off its first anniversary, still far surpasses its competitors with representation and constantly depicts its characters of color as well-rounded, three-dimensional people. Beyond the Gatesis the first soap opera to feature a predominantly Black cast since Generations (1989-1991) and the first soap opera to debut on daytime broadcast television since Passions (1999-2008), both of which aired on NBC.
The longest-running American soap opera in production, ABC’s General Hospital, trails slightly behind Beyond the Gates in terms of representation for people of color. Impressively, General Hospital has 14 actors of color in its cast. Peacock’s Days of Our Lives, which formerly aired on NBC, also has a healthy presence of 13 actors of color, nine of whom are on contract. CBS’s The Bold and the Beautiful has made strides towards representation, featuring nine actors of color. Conversely, CBS’s The Young and the Restless features just six actors of color in its cast, falling significantly behind the competition.
