Since its premiere in February 2025, the CBS soap opera Beyond the Gates has consistently led in representation of people of color on daytime television. The soap features far more people of color in its cast than the four legacy soaps. It is the only soap opera currently on television with a predominantly African-American cast. Similarly, several recurring performers receive prominent screen time despite not being in the main cast.
The Peacock soap opera Days of Our Lives places significant focus on people of color on screen. July marked an overall upward trend for screen time for performers of color in the soap’s cast. Meanwhile, the longest-running soap opera currently in production, ABC’s General Hospital, has several recurring performers of color who haven’t appeared for several months. Lastly, for CBS’s The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, July marked a continued decline in screen time for performers of color.

Beyond the Gates: Karla Mosley (Danielle "Dani" Dupree Hamilton) was featured more than any cast member of Beyond the Gates in July. Out of 20 episodes, Mosley was featured in 18, beating co-star Keith D. Robinson’s (Theodore "Ted" Richardson) total for June. Notably, Mosley has topped episode counts throughout several months, but July marked the first time since January that the actress appeared in more episodes than her co-stars. Similarly, Mosley topped her own record by appearing in more episodes in July than any other month since the soap’s debut. Meanwhile, Brandon Claybon (Martin Richardson), Lami (Izaiah Hawthorne), and Trisha Mann-Grant (Dana "Leslie" Thomas) appeared in just six episodes, fewer than any contract and several recurring performers of color on the soap.

Hilaire tied with recurring actress Naomi Matsuda (Dr. Li Finnegan), who topped episode counts for the recurring performers of color. Lastly, Dan Martin (Lieutenant Bradley Baker) made zero appearances in July.

At 11 out of 23 episodes, Crawford impressively outperformed the soap’s contract actors of color in screen time, a distinction from prior months. Out of the contract actors of color, Tyler Joseph Andrews (Theo Carver) and James Reynolds (Abe Carver) tied as screen time winners with nine episodes. Significantly, Andrews previously topped episode counts in June, and July saw a slight increase in his screen time. Lastly, Shi Ne Nielson (Amy Choi) made zero appearances in July.

This figure marks a considerable decline from the actress’ June totals, in which she also topped episode counts. Impressively, July marked the fourth consecutive month in which Khalil topped episode counts. Sean Dominic (Nate Hastings) and Bryton James (Devon Winters) each only appeared in two episodes, fewer than any contract actor of color on the soap.
Vivica A. Fox (Dr. Stephanie Simmons) was the only recurring actor to appear on the daytime drama in July. Still, Fox only appeared in one episode. Lastly, Shemar Moore (Malcolm Winters) and Valerie Pettiford (Amy Lewis) made zero appearances on the soap in July.
